Dear Sangha,

Hogen Sensei will arrive at the Temple on Wednesday, to offer daisan, lead the Zen Essentials seminar on Thursday evening, and give Sunday's talk. (Please note that there will not be regularly scheduled zazen on Thursday evening.) Taikyo will be here this week as senior staff person. Please see below for more information about upcoming programs.

Zen Essentials - Attachments and the Path to Liberation: This Thursday, July 13th, 6:30-8pm, Hogen Sensei will offer a Zen Essentials seminar on the Four Noble Truths, the Buddha's teaching describing human-created suffering, attachment to desires, and the spiritual path that embraces all aspects of our lives. In this seminar, we will examine how these teaching can guide and inspire our practice of the Way and have a powerful effect on our relationships, work, and service to others.

Sangha meetup at the Morgan Library: Coming up on Thursday, July 27th, 6-7pm, sangha members are invited to a free tour of This Ever New Self, a fascinating exhibit on Henry David Thoreau and his much-loved journals. The exhibit illuminates the ways Thoreau engaged in his own particular kind of mindful nature practice as a means of self-discovery and poetic expression. The journals are filled with insights into the unity of the individual self with the cosmos, as written by an ever-inquisitive and iconoclastic mind. The tour will be given by exhibition curator Christine Nelson, in conjunction with sangha member Jessica Ludwig. We'll meet a few minutes before 6pm at the Morgan Library's entrance at Madison Avenue and E. 36th Street. To register, please contact the Temple at (718) 875-8229 or zcnyc@mro.org. For more information, email Jessica at jludwig@themorgan.org
