We take great pleasure in inviting you to submit proposals for Special Symposia for the 11th World Biomaterials Congress in Glasgow 19-24 May 2020. The special symposium may be centred around a specific theme but it should align with the overall theme of WBC 2020 Pioneering biomaterials for global wellbeing”.
Click to submit your proposal for a special symposium
Deadline for submission: 1 May 2019

Each special symposium will consist of ONE invited keynote speaker (30 min for presentation and questions) with other speakers selected from the unsolicited Abstract submissions (each 15 min for presentation and questions). Each Symposium Chair should invite one junior-level (e.g. Assistant Professor) Symposium Co-Chair. To promote greater diversity and interest in your symposium, it is desirable that the Symposium Co-Chair is not from the same university/institution as the Symposium Chair. We also encourage the Symposium Chair to consider diversity in all aspects (gender, geographic location, etc.) when nominating your Co-Chair.

The proposers will be informed of acceptance/rejection by 1 June 2019.
Please note that the World Biomaterials Congress is not able to provide travel assistance or reductions in registration fees to any session organizers/chairs or speakers. Congress registration of the Keynote Speaker is mandatory and required for participation. By keeping down the number of free registrations we can reduce the registration costs for everyone, especially Students.

As a Proposer, you are responsible for the organisation and chairing of the Special Symposium and for selecting and inviting the Keynote Speaker. These prestigious Keynote Speaker slots should be occupied by senior researchers who are leaders in their field. Note: Symposium Chairs cannot be Invited Speakers in their own session.

All invited keynote speakers must submit an abstract via the Web-based submission portal (opening 1 May 2019) and register for the Congress to be included in the final schedule, but invited talks will be accepted without review. You, your Symposium Co-Chair and additional reviewer(s) will be asked to assess and score abstracts submitted to your session and after conferring with the Conference Executive Committee, to finalise the list of speakers and running order for your Special Symposium.

It should be noted that all speakers will be limited to a maximum of two podium presentations during the entire Congress, and you should inform any keynote speakers that, if they are invited to present more than two podium presentations, they need to decide which two to present.

Please make sure to submit your proposal to organize and chair a special symposium by
1 May 2019
. Submission requires the names of the Chair, Co-Chair, Keynote Speaker and Title of the proposed Special Symposium with a maximum of 200 words on the theme of Special Symposium and a maximum of 200 words on the Keynote Speaker and their relevance to the subject.

We look forward to receiving your proposals for the Special Symposia.
