Fuel Your Creativity
Ideas to Feed Your Soul

Creativity flourishes in San

Francisco—this is hardly a

secret. What you may not be

aware of, however, are the

range of activities

available to you to connect

with your inner artist. From

the kitchen to the art studio

and beyond, here is a list of

ideas to get you started.

San Francisco Cooking School

Cook up a storm at this professional

culinary and pastry arts education center.

The school offers career-training certificate

programs for aspiring chefs; these prepare

you to jump into your new career after a

half year of study, or a full year if you’re

enrolled half time. Hobbyists, however, are

also welcome. Home cooks can take

advantage of the West Coast’s largest slate

of recreational classes held at all levels.

Learn about all styles of do-it-yourself

endeavors at this maker space, which

offers more than 50 art and design classes

taught by locals. These range from a few

hours to multiple sessions and topics

covered include sewing, woodworking,

leather working, scented candles, floral

design, and much more.

Learn more about gritty street art through

a mix of urban art exhibits, public murals,

and firsthand experiences with this San

Francisco- and Oakland-based

organization, whose name is short for

First Amendment. The group’s stated

mission is the advancement of graffiti and

street art culture by creating a cultural

space and community of artists, fans, and

like-minded organizations.

Clay by the Bay

Get your hands dirty at this ceramic arts

program, which offers classes, open-access

memberships, and team building/private

group events. Enthusiasts can also attend

community artist talks and demonstrations,

which are held on a regular basis.

Book culinary experiences through this

website, which pairs consumers and

companies with top chefs to provide

cooking classes, culinary tours, and

food-based team-building events.

The Story of Ramen

Build the cohesive nature of your team

with this group, which started its life as a

pop-up and has since expanded to offer

team-building experiences based on (what

else?) ramen. Opportunities range from

eating to learning to experiencing the

noodle-based magic.

AirBnB Experiences

No longer simply for lodging, AirBnb now

offers a host of creative experiences

ranging from weaving at a historic cotton

mill, throwing clay on the wheel to

create pottery, creating your own scent

and candle (and, one would assume,

scented candles), letterpress printing, and

perhaps most deliciously of all,

experiencing the magic of macarons.
