Hurricane Dorian moving toward Florida
Hurricane Dorian is moving toward Florida and gaining strength. It could come ashore as a potentially devastating Category 4 storm. We’ll be closely following the path of the hurricane and its effects on air traffic over the coming days.
A British Airways 747
British Airways pilots to strike
British Airways pilots will strike 9-10 and 27 September, forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights. Flights on surrounding dates are also likely to be affected as BA attempts to minimize disruptions. The airline is looking into using partner airline aircraft as well as wet leasing some aircraft, something it has done previously.
SmartWings flight 1125
Smartwings flight suffers engine failure, continues to destination
Approximately 30 minutes after take off from Samos, Smartwings flight 1125 suffered an engine failure. The crew descended from FL350 to FL240 and continued to their intended destination of Prague. The Czech Aviation Authority is investigating why the aircraft did not divert to the nearest suitable airport.

Air China A330 damage in fire in Beijing
Air China A330 B-5958 was boarding for a flight to Tokyo when a cargo fire ignited and subsequently spread, significantly damaging the aircraft. Passengers who had already boarded were evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The NOAA Hurricane Hunters
The NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft are active this week helping forecast the path of Hurricane Dorian. NOAA42, a WP-3D, flies through the storm while NOAA49, a Gulfstream G-IV, flies above and around collecting data.

First Air France A350 takes to the air
The first A350 for Air France completed its first flight this week. The aircraft will conduct test flights as F-WZFN and will be permanently registered as F-HTYA.
