An American Airlines mechanic in Miami has been charged with sabotage for allegedly disabling part of 737-800 N861NN’s navigation system in July of this year. The pilots discovered an issue with the system during taxi to the runway and returned to the gate, where the sabotage was discovered. The flight departed 4 hours later after repairs were made. The mechanic stated that he damaged the aircraft because he was unhappy with the current state of contract negotiations.
