Indonesian investigators release Lion Air 610 final report
Indonesian investigators released their final report on the crash of Lion Air flight 610 this morning, finding that Boeing’s design of the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS), the FAA’s certification of the system, the airline’s maintenance of the aircraft, and the pilots’ actions during the flight all contributed to the crash.

Air New Zealand to launch Auckland-New York flights next year

Beginning October 2020, Air New Zealand will fly to New York (EWR) from Auckland three times per week aboard the 787-9. The 14,178 km flight will become the 5th longest flight in the world. In order to begin non-stop service to New York, Air New Zealand will cease its Los Angeles-London route at the same time.

Thai Airways 777 suffers uncontained engine failure 
Thai Airways Boeing 777-300ER HS-TKL operating flight TG970 from Bangkok to Zurich suffered an uncontained engine failure in one of its GE90-115B engines on its departure roll in Bangkok. The takeoff was aborted and no injuries were reported. The FAA has ordered checks on a small subset of GE90 engines.

SpiceJet 737 using incorrect ICAO 24 bit address causes incident above Pakistan
On 30 August a SpiceJet 737 flying from Delhi to Kabul caused a stir in Pakistan because it was broadcasting an incorrect ICAO 24 bit address associated with an Indian Air Force An-32. Luckily the issue was resolved with a bit of holding and communication. Recent reporting revealed the code was incorrectly assigned to the aircraft by Indian aviation authorities. The aircraft, VT-SXD is now broadcasting the corrected code.

Boeing is using its 737 MAX 7 test aircraft N7201S to test the revised MCAS software. It has recently performed one test flight and FAA certification test flights could occur soon.
