Dear Sangha,
 
Mn. Gokan arrived at the Temple last week, and will stay through Wednesday, leading the New Year's program on Tuesday evening. Mn. Yukon will arrive on Thursday, and will offer the talk on Sunday. Please see below for more information about upcoming programs.
 
New Year's Eve Extended Sit: On Tuesday, December 31st, 6:30-10pm, Monastic Gokan Bonebakker will lead a program of zazen and liturgy for the new year. Please join us for an extended sit, Heart Sutra service, and an offering of incense and vows. Toward the end of the evening, we will gather for refreshments. Please bring a light refreshment to share. Doors will open at 6:00pm. Donations are welcome.
 
Holiday schedule: Please note that the Temple will be closed on Wednesday, January 1st, and will remain closed through Friday morning, January 3rd, reopening for evening zazen on Friday.
 
Earth Initiative meeting: Coming up next Wednesday, January 8th, the Earth Initiative will hold its monthly reading group. This month we'll take up the fourth and fifth chapters of David Loy's book Ecodharma. We will meet on the third floor, in the Temple library, 7:15-8:30pm, after the first period of evening zazen at 6:30. To receive a copy of this month's reading, please email Sanzen (jimbocole@aol.com).
 
Jukai Ceremony: Coming up on Sunday, January 12th, during the Sunday morning program, MRO students of Hojin Sensei will receive the sixteen bodhisattva precepts in a ceremony called Jukai. These vows of the bodhisattva are part of the students' ongoing path of practice and training. Please feel welcome to participate in the ceremony, which begins at 9:30.
 
Zazenkai: And coming up on Saturday, January 18th, Hojin Sensei will lead a Zazenkai from 8am-6pm. This full day of extended sitting includes oryoki lunch, a talk, and daisan with Sensei.

February
A full-day workshop on qigong practices to prevent illness, warm up, and strengthen the body. These practices will give particular attention to the kidneys and spine.
 
2 LGBTQ Tea Group, 1-2:30pm
The LGBTQ Tea Group will meet at the Temple on Sunday afternoon. 
 
15 Zazenkai, with Hogen Sensei, 8am-6pm
A full-day silent zazen intensive. Participants will have an opportunity for daisan with Sensei.
 
29 Half-Day Sit, with Hogen Sensei, 8am-12noon
A full morning of extended sitting. Lunch will be served following the sit.

March
5-8 Sesshin, with Hogen Sensei, Thursday, 5pm-Sunday, 12:30pm
This silent zazen intensive includes daily oryoki, talks, and daisan. Sesshin may be joined on Thursday or Friday. First-time sesshin registrants should contact the training office before registering.

You are invited to come early and help prepare the Temple for Sunday services.

(Beginning instruction in zazen is offered to those who are new to the Temple.)
