Dear Sangha,
 
Hojin Sensei will be at the Temple this week, arriving on Tuesday to offer daisan, lead the Fusatsu on Thursday evening and the Zazenkai on Saturday, and offer Sunday's talk. (Please note that there will not be regularly scheduled morning or evening zazen on Saturday.) Taikyo will be here this week as senior staff person. Please see below for more information about upcoming programs.
 
Fusatsu: On Thursday evening, October 12th, 6:30-8pm, Hojin Sensei will lead a renewal of vows ceremony during evening zazen. Offered regularly during Ango, Fusatsu is open to all.
 
Zazenkai: On Saturday, October 14th, Hojin Sensei will lead a Zazenkai from 8am-6pm. These full days of extended sitting include oryoki lunch, a talk, and daisan with Hojin.
 
Can you offer a ride to the Monastery? If you need a ride or can offer a ride to Zen Mountain Monastery, see the RideShare Board on the Monastery's website. Rides from the city to the Monastery are often requested, so if you are driving and can take a passenger, please sign up. Thank you!

12 Fusatsu, with Hojin Sensei, 6:30-8pm
A renewal of vows ceremony, offered regularly during Ango. Open to all.
 
14 Zazenkai, with Hojin Sensei, 8am-6pm
A full-day silent zazen intensive. Participants will have an opportunity for daisan with Hojin.
 
19 Buddhist Studies, with Hogen Sensei, 6:30-8pm
Third of four Fall Ango study sessions on the Heart Sutra, using Red Pine's translation and commentary, and the Mountains and Rivers Order liturgy translation. The zendo will be open for informal zazen before the study session.
 
Poet and editor John Brehm will read selections from his new anthology of poetry on themes of Buddhist practice. The reading will be followed by refreshments and music.
 
21 A Day of Poetry and Feldenkrais, with John Brehm and Alice Boyd, 10am-4pm
In this retreat, we will explore how to cultivate equanimity in challenging times, through the interconnected practices of meditation, mindful poetry reading, and awareness of movement using the Feldenkrais Method.
 
28 Half Day Sit, 8am-noon
A full morning of extended sitting. Lunch will be served following the sit.
 
November
Dharma Holder Zuisei Goddard will lead a mondo (question-and-answer session) on the Third Grave Precept: Honor the Body; Do Not Misuse Sexuality. Open to those who identify as LGBTQ, this mondo is an opportunity to explore the dharma from the perspective of individual and shared experiences as LGBTQ practitioners. Come early if you'd like to sit a period of evening zazen at 6:30, before the mondo begins at 7:00.
 
Dharma Holder Zuisei Goddard and the Temple's Zen Kids program present a day of family practice, including zazen, stories, art, work practice, singing, and a simple formal meal. Children ages 4 through 10 are welcome, accompanied by at least one parent.

You are invited to come early and help prepare the Temple for Sunday services. 

9:30 am - 12:30 pm -- Liturgy, zazen & dharma talk followed by refreshments with the sangha.

(Beginning instruction in zazen is offered to those who are new to the Temple.)
