Fund to support rural projects in Surrey

LEADER is a grant programme from the Rural Development Programme for England  available to farmers, foresters, community enterprises and rural based businesses. It aims to improve the economy and quality of life for people in rural Surrey.
The programme has £800,000 remaining to allocate to eligible projects and is open for applications until December 2018 with projects able to complete in 2019. There is a handbook where you can find out what is eligible for funding.
The programme is focused on creating jobs and economic growth and has six priority areas for investment:

Tandridge Together Lottery

On Wednesday 31 January around 100 guests gathered at the official launch of the Tandridge Together Lottery held at The Orpheus Centre in Godstone.
The evening included a special live lottery draw with prizes donated by a range of local businesses. We would like to say a huge thank you to the local businesses who donated prizes for the launch and for future draws.

If you could sponsor a prize for a local resident to win as part of the new weekly lottery draw, please get in touch. We are looking for local businesses to help support good causes and residents across the Tandridge district.

It’s not too late to sign up!
Over 60 good causes have already signed up to be part of the lottery. Good causes can register by visiting The good cause must operate within the Tandridge district and can include schools, sports teams, Scout or Guides groups or community groups.
Every good cause will have a web page set up for them and will be given detailed support to help them market the lottery to their supporters in order to raise funds.

Thank you for taking part in the Draft Caterham Masterplan Consultation

Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation about proposals for the future of Caterham and viewed the Draft Caterham Town Masterplan Supplementary Planning Document. The consultation ran for eight weeks and finished on Monday 22 January.
The proposals were viewed by 2,466 people on the Caterham Masterplan website and over 200 people attended one of three exhibition events held during the consultation.
The Council is still analysing the feedback, which will be used to create the final Caterham Town Masterplan Supplementary Planning Document, expected to be adopted in the spring. The feedback and comments will be published and available to view shortly at

Funding opportunities for you and your business

Rural Surrey LEADER programme: A government grant funding programme to help support farmers, foresters and rural businesses in Surrey. Now open for applications until December 2018. Contact to find out more.
Virgin Start Up Loans: A Start Up loan of £500-£25,000 available, along with a business mentor to help make best use of the loan.
Coast to Capital: A range of loans and funds for local businesses. Includes the Business Growth Grants Programme, Growing Places Fund for projects that have stalled due to lack of investment, Expansion Loan Scheme and Equity Fund.
Fredericks Foundation: Start up loans and support for those who have found it difficult to access finance.
Princes’ Trust: The Princes' Trust helps 18-30 year olds who are unemployed, under employed or who have limited means to startup businesses.
GOV.UK: Visit and use the business support finder to identify possible sources of finance including grants, loans and investment and business support including mentoring and consultancy services.

Coast to Capital Business Navigator: Business Navigator is a free service which can help guide businesses through the support available and help identify the most appropriate solutions.
Sussex Innovation Centre: Affiliated with Sussex University it provides support to startups, scale ups and innovation projects. There are incubation hubs in Croydon, Brighton and Falmer.
Brighton Digital Catapult Centre: Focuses on projects which encourage innovation and value using real time and location based data. The centre supports start-ups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) using digital information and focuses on projects that encourage innovation in the retail sector and the creative industries.
Enterprise First– Provides business advice, mentoring, support workshops and a great e-newsletter with information about running and growing your business, from tax and marketing to using social media.
