March for Our Lives: Coming up next Saturday, March 24th, MRO sangha members from both Zen Mountain Monastery and Fire Lotus Temple will be participating in March for Our Lives NYC in Manhattan. The march is scheduled to run from 10:00am to 5:00pm and will begin at W. 72nd Street, entering onto Central Park heading south. The NYPD will move the entrance up north as needed depending on the crowd size. The organizers will provide more details on the march route at their March 15th press conference at City Hall.
The event is inspired and organized by the students and families of Parkland, Florida, and students and families who have encountered similar tragedies in other parts of the country. The organizers of the Women's March are also helping to organize this event. There will be a parallel march on the same day in Washington, D.C., and marches in other American cities.
MRO sangha will be marching with other New York City sangha as part of the newly-formed Buddhist Action Coalition, which developed out of the Buddhist Action meeting in early February. The meet up point for the Buddhist Action Coalition has not yet been finalized.
If you are interested in attending the event as part of the MRO contingent, please contact either Sanzen Cole ( from Fire Lotus Temple, or Steve Miron ( from Zen Mountain Monastery. Steve is also organizing Ride Sharing on March 24th from the Monastery to NYC.
