FedEx and Southwest planes come within 100 feet of each other in Austin
A FedEx 767 and Southwest Airlines 737 came within 100 feet of each other last weekend in Austin. The 767 was attempting to land in low visibility conditions, but the 737 was still occupying the runway. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the incident.

No, this not a Chinese spy balloon
A Chinese stratospheric spy balloon floated across the United States last week. It wasn’t trackable on Flightradar24, but many people mistook a separate high altitude research balloon for the Chinese balloon. Fast forward a few days and the US military closed airspace off the coast of South Carolina and shot the balloon down. Both pilots walk away from Coulson fire bomber crash
A Coulson Flying Tankers 737-300 crashed fighting bush fires in Western Australia this week. Tanker 139 was fighting a fire in the Fitzgerald River National Park when it crashed near the fire line. Amazingly, both pilots walked away from the accident.

Qatar’s roller coaster departure
In the early morning hours of 10 January, Qatar Airways flight 161 departed Doha bound for Copenhagen climbing to 1,850 feet. But then the aircraft descended to just 800 feet before recovering and climbing again. The flight arrived in Copenhagen six hours later.

Universal Hydrogen receives FAA clearance for test flights
The FAA granted Universal Hydrogen a Special Airworthiness Certificate to begin flight testing its hydrogen-powered Dash 8-300. Flights are expected “soon” at Moses Lake in Washington.
