Final flight path for A6-EDB
Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport is finally open

Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport (BER) opened this week after a nearly 10 year delay. Originally scheduled to open in 2011, the airport suffered from costly construction issues and repeated delays. On 31 October the airport finally opened with Lufthansa and easyJet both sending ceremonial flights that were supposed to make a parallel landing. However, due to the weather only one runway was available.

Qantas A380 VH-OQA
10 years since QF32

This week marks 10 years since QF32 suffered an uncontained engine failure departing Singapore. Debris from the engine severed critical controls and severely degraded the aircraft’s capabilities. The crew were able to safely return to Singapore without injury to anyone onboard the aircraft. After lengthy repairs, the A380 returned to service.
Sadly, due to COVID-19 both the airplane and the captain of QF32 have been grounded. VH-OQA now sits in the California desert and Capt. Richard de Crespigny will take early retirement at the end of the month.
