GOL 737 MAX PR-XMB
GOL makes first 737 MAX flight 

Brazilian airline GOL became the first airline to return the 737 MAX to commercial service this week after the aircraft was grounded worldwide for nearly two years. It is operating MAX flights to and from São Paulo (GRU) to start.

2021 Paris Air Show canceled 

In a widely expected—but still disappointing—move organizers announced the cancellation of the 2021 Paris Air Show scheduled for June. First held in 1909, this is the first time since World War II that the show has been canceled. The Paris Air Show is held in odd years and is often the venue for major aircraft orders and unveilings.

Thieves steal radio equipment from Russian ‘Doomsday Plane’

Thieves made off with over three dozen radios from a Russian IL-80 undergoing maintenance near Rostov. The aircraft is designed for use by Russian leadership in the event of nuclear war, leading to many questions about how such a theft could possibly occur.

Brazilian airline Azul is no stranger to colorful liveries, but their newest E195-E2 may be in a class all its own. PS-AEF sports a special livery featuring a trio of ararhinas (macaws) thought to have gone extinct, but recently discovered in captivity. Conservation efforts for the birds are now underway.

South African start-up Lift Airlines commenced operations this week. The airline is using Global Aviation A320s between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Hi Fly A380 busy ahead of its scheduled retirement

Hi Fly’s A380, which had its seats removed earlier this year so it could carry more cargo, is currently flying from Seoul and Shanghai to Hamburg carrying medical supplies. The aircraft is scheduled to leave the Hi Fly fleet at the end of the year.

Each December for the past few years, pilots have taken to the sky to trace out Christmas trees and the first this year was done by pilots at the LOT Flight Academy. Some have added additional decoration and one pilot even included a Christmas message. We expect to see a few more trees before the year is out.
