Enote from Pastor Penny Ellwood

January 8, 2021

Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,

This is my first enote of the New Year, but to start with a lighthearted Happy New Year's greeting seems insensitive with all that has happened this week. Like many of you, it was a question of "Have you seen the news?!" that called my attention to the events playing out in our nation's capitol on Wednesday. I was shocked and appalled.  Peaceful transitions of power are an honored part of our system of democracy.  This then was followed by the news of a record setting number of COVID deaths and a surge in positive test results. In times like these, I call to mind the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isa. 41:10)."  These words give me comfort and remind us that God is always with and for us. I also want to remind you that if these events are troubling to you and you would like to talk about it or need a word of prayer, we are here for you too. Simply reach out to me or any of our staff team with a phone call or email.

‚ÄčThis weekend in worship we continue our sermon series A Thinking Person's Guide to Faith. Pastor Adam will share a message called When People Get it Wrong and he will address some of the events of this past week as we take a look at our human condition. We will also hear the total for our Candlelight Christmas Eve Offering. Plan to join us. You will find the links and worship times listed below.

On Saturday January 16th and Monday January 18th, for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we have established over 500 ways for you to make it a "Day on, not a day off" out in the community. With morning and afternoon sessions, we hope that you, your family, or your small group will rise to the occasion to serve in a Covid Cautious way at one of over 20 service agencies with whom we have committed to make a difference. We are also suggesting a number of serve from home options for those who can not make it out. As a part of a weekend full of celebration and learning alongside our Justice Ministry team, we hope MLK Weekend 2021 sets a joy-filled tone for serving the whole rest of the year. Contact Pastor Patrick.McLaughlin@cor.org with questions or visit cor.org/mlk to sign up.

3rd Grade Bibles
Do you have a 3rd Grade Student in your house or family this year? I look forward to our ongoing tradition of presenting 3rd grade students with a Bible of their very own. This year is not any different. However, our plan looks a little different.  This year will will hand deliver the Bibles to your homes beginning Jan. 20. Then we will all gather together online on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 1 pm central time for a message from Pastor Adam, a little exploring our Bibles together, a few fun games and a chance to break into campus specific groups (if you have a preference) to close the time out. Register by Jan. 17 to ensure we can get the Bible to you in time. We can't wait to get this Bible Adventure started!

The world needs the message of Jesus Christ more than ever.  May we inspire one another to love and good deeds.
