With Troll Research Station’s summer personnel heading home this week on a chartered Icelandair 767, we wanted to find out more about how the Norwegian Polar Institute manages an airport in Antarctica. Spoiler alert: it’s a lot of work!

EASA issues airworthiness directive on A320-family windscreens

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency issued an airworthiness directive this week requiring checks of the windscreens on all Airbus A320-family aircraft at specific intervals. The AD stems from the 2019 failure of a Sichuan Airlines A319’s right windscreen and the resulting rapid decompression that serverely injured the first officer.

In a press conference this week, Dong Zhiyi, deputy administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, said that the regulator still has major safety concerns about the 737 MAX and the aircraft will not fly until those have been satisfied.
