Keeping Americans Connected with Broadband Built to Last
For over a century, the goal of ensuring that every American has access to reliable communications services at a reasonable cost has guided national policy. Today, that mission continues through the federal Universal Service Fund (USF) — a vital program that helps rural communities like ours stay connected.
At Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom, we're proud to participate in the USF program, which helps bring high-quality, affordable broadband to homes and businesses across Vermont. This support is especially critical for low-income families, schools, libraries, and healthcare facilities in our region, ensuring that everyone has access to the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
Whether you're streaming a class, attending a telehealth appointment, or running a small business from home, the USF helps make those connections possible — right here in Vermont.
Watch this short video to learn more about how the Universal Service Fund is making a difference in rural communities like ours.

Cyber Scams: Don't Be a Target
Cyber scams are nothing new. Every day, con artists are looking for the best "marks." Think you're not worth being the target of online predators? Think again!
Protect yourself with these four basics:
- Turn on Multifactor Authentication (MFA) - Adds a second step (code, fingerprint, FaceID) to prove it's you. Start with email, then secure bank, social, shopping, and gaming accounts.
- Update Software - Turn on automatic updates for phones, computers, apps, and browsers. Updates fix security flaws before hackers exploit them.
- Think Before You Click - Phishing messages mimic banks, bosses, or friends to steal info or install malware. If a link looks off—don’t click.
- Use Strong Passwords - Make them long (16+ characters), unique, and random. Use a password manager—and protect it with MFA.
As our world becomes more digital and interconnected, protecting ourselves alone isn't enough—it takes all of us to safeguard the systems we rely on.

Employee Spotlight: Daniel Gives Back at Merrymac Farm Sanctuary
When Daniel Hollister isn't helping our customers with tech support, he's sharing his time and kindness with the animals at Merrymac Farm Sanctuary in Charlotte. On his most recent visit, he spent time with Bonnie—affectionately known as "The Mayor of Merrymac." Bonnie's history with meningeal worms has affected her ability to walk perfectly, but she still gets around quite well. At about 12–14 years old, she has a determined personality and loves to be part of everything happening at the sanctuary. She adores people, and chances are if you visit, she'll be the first to greet you.
Merrymac Farm Sanctuary provides a safe, loving home for neglected and abandoned farm animals, giving them the second chance they deserve. We're proud to see Daniel bringing so much heart to both his work and his volunteer efforts.
