FAA makes changes in DC following NTSB’s urgent safety recommendations
The NTSB released its preliminary report on the mid-air collision at DCA as well as two urgent safety recommendations to the FAA. In its report, the NTSB notes between 2011 and 2024, “at least one TCAS resolution advisory (RA) was triggered per month due to proximity to a helicopter. In over half of these instances, the helicopter may have been above the route altitude restriction.”
The FAA has now acted, removing helicopter routes 4 and 6 in the area around DCA. Read the full preliminary report, the urgent safety recommendations report, and see the comparative helicopter charts on our blog.
