We are pleased to highlight the publication of the flagship paper of our Precision Psychiatry Roadmap initiative in Molecular Psychiatry! This global initiative, co-ordinated by ECNP, calls for a shift from symptom-based classifications toward a precision psychiatry approach that integrates biological, behavioural, and symptomatic data. Through a biology-informed framework for mental disorders our vision is to see the right treatment for the right person at the right time.

The study urges integrated care to reduce costly physical health issues tied to mental illness, improving outcomes and lowering hospital expenses across 32 European countries.

It also examines common comorbidities, such as depression and other anxiety disorders, as well as treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), pharmacotherapy with SSRIs or SNRIs, and emerging tools and mobile applications.

Andreas Reif, Germany, explores the paradigm shift in depression treatment with intranasal esketamine, the first NMDA antagonist antidepressant. The presentation concludes by outlining the challenges and ongoing trials of NMDA-based treatments, highlighting the potential of glutamate-system targeting for faster, more effective antidepressants in the future.
